In 2015, our Marketing Committee decided to revamp the college’s publicity materials, including our prospectus, website, flyers and wall displays around the college site.

A key component of these materials is photographs, so we commissioned Alison McKenny Photography to come into the school and take pictures of our students, actively engaged and enjoying their learning.

From the outset it was apparent that Alison was the consummate professional. She is reliable, punctual, knowledgeable and skilful. More than that, though, what really makes Alison’s photographs exceptional is her ability to put her clients at ease. Her friendly nature, beaming smile and encouraging words quickly dispelled any nerves in our students and, as a result, their poses and expressions were natural and authentic. Alison also has a terrific sense of humour so staff and students alike genuinely enjoyed the whole experience.

We were so delighted with Alison’s work that we asked her to come back to our Sixth Form Campus to repeat the brief. Again, she produced a range of brilliant photographs, many of which were enlarged and displayed around the site, bringing empty corridors to life and providing inspiration for future generations of students.

Unsurprisingly, Alison returned to photograph our students at both campuses every year from 2015 to 2021, where she captured day to day life, as it was happening. Alison took behind the scenes photos of classes in action, including all departments (Science, Art, PE, Maths, Media etc) with an aim to bring the school to life with photos, also capturing special events like Sports Days and staff headshots when required.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN WORKING WITH ME?

My goal is to make the process seamless and efficient for your staff while ensuring I capture the best possible images.

A dedicated school contact is essential to help coordinate my time on the day of the shoot. I always recommend an initial meeting prior to the shoot day to discuss your vision and create a detailed plan for the shoot.  I can advise on how long that might take and make suggestions of different props or setups that might make for aesthetically pleasing images.   Then you can work on a schedule that ensures each subject area, Teacher, or activity is ready for me to photograph at the optimal time.  This allows me to deliver the highest-quality images that represent your school at its very best and differentiate you from other schools.

Don’t forget to include Science experiments, art, food tech, sports and forest school — these are some of the activities that make for really visually compelling images, where we can see the children engaged and having fun with their Teachers.

I would also advise you to choose students ahead of time who are comfortable in front of the camera and would make great models for the key (hero) images — whether for your website’s main banner or the cover of your prospectus.  Prepping these children before the shoot is key, ensuring they are happy to be photographed and have the right uniform or sports kit on the day.

YOUR QUESTIONS
How long will it take to receive the photos?
It usually takes me a week to edit and deliver your images via an online web gallery, that you will be able to download your photos from.   However, this may change if it’s a particularly busy time of year but I will make you aware of this at the time.  If you need any images urgently, please let me know as soon as you can and I will make sure I expedite those for you to ensure you get them on time.
Are you insured?
Yes, I am fully insured with Public Liability and wouldn’t work without it. Please let me know if you need to see this before the shoot.
Some of our children are not allowed to be photographed. How do you handle that?
Of course I am happy to work around children that are not allowed to be photographed and would as that my point of contact at the school accompany me on the day of the shoot so they can point out those who should not be included in any images.
How many images will we get from the shoot and how are they provided?
That depends how long your session is, and how many different activities are photographed on the day.  But I aim for 30 per hour although I don’t guarantee a particular number as every session is different, I will provide all the best images from the day.  I do lightly edit all the photos before they are delivered but if any specific editing is required, just let me know and I will do my best to accommodate your requests.   The images are provided via an online web gallery that is live for 12 months and you can download the images in high resolution (for printing) and also web sized for use on your website or social media platforms.
Our school is further than 25 miles from Stoke By Clare, Suffolk. Will you still travel to us?
Yes I’m happy to travel further but do charge .50p per mile for mileage over 25 miles from Stoke By Clare.
Can we reschedule if the weather is bad?
I am still happy to shoot if the weather is overcast and even a little bit of rain is fine, but if it’s looking really bad, then yes, I’m happy to reschedule.
