How to Look and Feel Confident During Your Personal Branding Photoshoot

Dec 4, 2024 | Personal Branding

Stepping in front of the camera can feel nerve-wracking, but it doesn’t have to be! Whether you’re a business coach, wellness expert, or creative entrepreneur, your Personal Branding Photoshoot should be an empowering experience that leaves you with images you’re proud to share.

As a Suffolk Personal Branding Photographer, I’ve guided countless clients through the process, helping them feel confident and capturing their unique essence. Here are 8 key tips to help you prepare, relax, and shine during your session.

1. Prepare with Purpose

Confidence starts with preparation. Think about the message you want your photos to convey.

  • Choose outfits that align with your brand’s personality—whether that’s polished, approachable, creative, or relaxed.
  • Plan a mix of casual and professional looks to give you variety.
  • Keep your skin hydrated and avoid last-minute treatments that might irritate it.
  • Pay attention to other details like your hair and nails (which you might want to have done before your shoot) to ensure you are happy with your overall look in your images.

2. Select the Right Location

The setting of your shoot plays a significant role in the final outcome.

  • For outdoor sessions, choose locations that resonate with your brand values, like scenic countryside for a natural vibe.
  • The Photographers Studio’s would be perfect for versatile, professional shots.
  • Or you might prefer to do the shoot at your own work place or home if it fits in better with your brand.
  • There is also the option to hire a specific location for the shoot like a cafe, hotel or styled home, and Photographers like myself are always happy to help find the right location for the session.

I am lucky enough to live in a beautiful home that allows gorgeous light and airy lifestyle photos for my clients.  I also have my own studio and live on our family farm so there is lots of beautiful outdoor space to avail of too so can offer lots of options to my clients without having to take up too much time during the session travelling from one location to the next.

3. Work with a Photographer Who Guides You

A great photographer will help you feel at ease, especially if you’re not used to being in front of the camera.

  • I guide my clients with posing tips, ensuring every shot feels natural and relaxed.
  • Communication is key—share your goals and vision with your photographer beforehand and if they show you images as you go along through the shoot, let them know if there is anything you would like to change before moving on. Your Photographer won’t mind as they will be keen to achieve the look you are really going for.

Pro Tip: When looking for a Personal Branding Photographer, choose someone who is experienced in working with small business owners and who understands how to highlight your brand.

4. Bring Meaningful Props

Props aren’t just for fun—they can tell your story.

  • A laptop, notebook, or product samples can help showcase what you do.
  • Incorporate items that make you feel comfortable, like a favorite mug or even your pet (if it aligns with your brand).

5. Relax with Professional Support

Your session should feel more like a collaboration than a performance.

  • Bring a playlist of your favourite songs to create a comfortable atmosphere.
  • Treat yourself to professional hair and makeup. It’s not about transforming your look but enhancing your natural beauty to help you feel confident.
  • We have a great relationship with a wonderful hair and makeup artist Danielle who usually comes to the studio to do our client’s hair and makeup before their shoot, so do let me know if this is something you are interested in.

6. Focus on Your Best Features

You might have insecurities about certain aspects of your appearance—everyone does.

  • A skilled photographer knows how to highlight your best angles and bring out your unique beauty.
  • Confidence is about celebrating your authentic self, not chasing perfection.

7. Remember Your Why

Keep in mind the purpose of your branding photos.

  • Are they for your website? Social media? Marketing materials?  Also, think about how you want to use them, do you think you will need space to the side or above to add text?  If so, it’s really important to share that with your Photographer so they know to leave space in the image for that sort of thing.
  • Visualize how these images will elevate your business and attract the clients you really want to attract.  Will the colours / vibe / aesthetic speak to them and encourage them to stop scrolling?  If you aren’t sure, it is important to work all of that out before you start your branding photoshoot.   Experienced Branding Photographers like myself will be able to give you good direction on what you need to think about first or you could speak to a Branding Strategist to learn more about this side of your business.

Did you know that businesses using professional brand images see a 38% increase in engagement on social media? This isn’t just about photos—it’s about creating a powerful first impression.

8. Trust the Process

The best photos come when you’re relaxed and enjoying the moment.

  • Trust your photographer to capture your personality and tell your story authentically.
  • Remember, the camera loves authenticity—clients will connect with your real, approachable self.

Why Regular Branding Photoshoots Matter

As your business evolves, so should your branding. Having up-to-date, professional photos ensures your online presence stays relevant.

  • I recommend scheduling a Personal Branding Photoshoot at least once a year or whenever you pivot your business.
  • This keeps your marketing materials fresh and reflects any new services or directions in your business.
