FINE ART EQUINE PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER SUFFOLK
Growing up, I was very passionate about Art and Horses and struggled to decide on which direction to follow when I left school. I finally decided on a BSc in Equine Studies at Writtle Agricultural College and loved my course and my time there.
During my Degree course, I was lucky enough to work at a couple of the top Thoroughbred Studs in the world including Windfields Farm in Canada (where Northern Dancer was born) and Kildangan Stud in Kildare, Ireland. I also worked for top Irish Showjumper of the 1990’s, Paul Darragh.
10 years ago, I finally gave in to my creative side when I took up Photography and have since trained with world-renowned photographers like Sue Bryce and Elena Shumilova and more recently with (SWPP Children’s Photographer of the year) Paulina Duczman. Through their work, I have been inspired to capture my subjects in an elegant and timeless way and I want to follow that through with my Equine Portrait Photography.
These images are not the usual portraits that you see in lifestyle or standard photoshoots but are beautifully lit with soft light and dark shadows to create more moody and striking portraits. They will not date with time and are heirloom pieces that will be passed down from generation to generation.
A fine art portrait photograph is intended for wall art. It can sometimes be described as “décor photography” or “photo décor.” If you should want to invest in some wall art for your Portraits, I have some beautiful Wall Art Products available to choose from including Framed Prints, Canvases and Acrylics. Or you could choose a display piece for your mantlepiece with a Luxury Folio Box. More details can be found below!
Although these sessions are usually focused on photographing the Horses in a Fine Art style, I’m also happy to take some more relaxed natural shots of you and your horse together and if we have time we can take some family portraits at the end of the session if you wish. You just need to let me know your priorities beforehand so that I can create your dream portraits for you.

YOUR FINE ART EQUINE PORTRAIT SHOOT
Fine Art Photography is not about capturing a moment, that represents reality, like lifestyle or documentary style photography. It’s more about making an artistic statement, that has been envisaged in the artist’s mind before taking the photograph. Time has gone into planning every single element of the image including styling, clothing, props, posing, expression, lighting, and the background. Some fine art images will tell a story which make it all the more interesting to look at.
A fine art portrait image is created by the photographer as an artist and not just by the camera.
When my clients contact me and tell me that they would like to have some Fine Art Portraits taken during their session, I love it as it gives me the opportunity to be creative. The best photographs are when my clients tell me there is a story to tell with this image. It might be something that reflects their personality or interests or their relationship with their horses. Or they might just want a really beautiful and compelling portrait of their Horse to display on their wall.
Either way is fine by me!
I'D LIKE TO DO THIS STYLE OF SHOOT WITH MY CHILDREN AND THEIR PONIES, HOW OLD DO THEY NEED TO BE??
I am happy to photograph children and adults in this style and really the children need to be confident around their ponies and old enough to follow direction from me. Usually children age 5 and above are able to do this but every child is different so I will trust your judgement when deciding this.
I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING SUITABLE TO WEAR, CAN YOU HELP?
Absolutely! If my clients have a story to tell that they want to stand out in their image, then I’m more than happy to include something personal to them to make the image all the more special. Or I might have something suitable here at the studio. I have lots of props and vintage style outfits for children and Adults of all ages, sizes, hats, headbands, flowers, and other accessories available to use so you don’t need to worry about bringing anything special with you
HOW LONG WILL MY PHOTOS TAKE TO BE READY?
This process of editing your photos generally takes no longer than three weeks. I am now doing my Viewing and Ordering Sessions either in person at my studio or via Zoom and we can set up a date in the diary before you leave your photoshoot.
We can do this in the evening after work if that suits you best.
These sessions usually take no more than an hour and I will show you your images on a slideshow to music, and then can help you narrow down your favourites using a star system. I can also advise you on products including wall art, and Albums should you need help.
I JUST WANT DIGITALS, DO I HAVE TO BUY A COLLECTION?
There is no pressure to buy anything at all but Digital Files are only available to purchase with a Collection. If you want more than x5 but less then x10, you can buy extra’s at £70 each for the Digital plus matching mounted prints, but you can’t just buy one from the A La Carte menu I’m afraid.
Having been in this industry for 11 years now, I know a lot of my previous clients who just bought Digitals have never found the time to do anything with them, which is such a waste. When investing in a Professional Portrait Shoot, I want my clients to have photos that they can display around their home and enjoy every single day.
As I use the best suppliers I know my clients will receive top-quality products that will last for years and years, so that future generations can also enjoy their family portraits.
ir portraits too.
MY HORSE DOESN'T TRAVEL WELL, WELL YOU COME TO ME?
I do most of my shoots on my family farm but I’m happy to come to you if this is the case or if you have a particular location that is important to you that you would like captured in the photos.
Just be aware however that I do charge .45p per mile for travelling expenses from Stoke By Clare, Suffolk.

I would love to hear from you, and if you do have any questions at all before booking, please do feel free to contact me using the form below.
